The Smoke Of Satan

Steve Skojec, on the 1Peter5 blog has put up a piece today that gets to the heart of the matter concerning the upcoming synod and what we can expect, as Catholics, to have to deal with.

He brings home the simple fact that we are under spiritual attack and we must stop the rancor within our ranks and present a united front.

Traditional Catholic Priest And Men Have Temptations Of The Flesh

For the last month, I have been going through some very severe temptations of the flesh.  Please pray for me.  This is effecting me in every part of my life.  This is very embarrassing to write about.  But for this reason, I am writing about the extreme temptations of the flesh that we men have to go through and of which women, (although they have their own temptations too), can never really understand.

Only men can truly understand the extreme difficulty for a men to be chaste.

God made us men physically and psychologically different from women.  The greatest disadvantage we men have, (and  it is God given), is that our private parts are outside of of our bodies and for this reason can so easily lead self abuse.  Women do not have this problem, (as I already stated, they have their own temptations).  That is why we men need to be extra vigilant when it comes to this built in terrible propensity to self-pleasuring ourselves.

The second thing is that we are psychologically designed, (again by God), to be aroused by sight.  This also is a great danger for us because all day long we are inundated with visual things, or immodestly dressed women, that can cause sexual attraction and arousal.  This is where we need to be very vigilant.

As soon as a we notice that a sight is causing sexual attraction, that is a signal for our eyes and mind to turn away immediately.  This is called ‘custody of the eyes‘.   It is helpful to replace the sexually loaded vision or thought with a holy thought and image like the beauty of the Virgin Mary.

Immaculate Heart of Mary

Many women, who dress immodestly, blame men for having dirty minds for having noticed their body parts they have put on display.  Over and over I hear men telling me that they are having bad thoughts while in church from the sexy way the women dress while attending Mass.  I have never heard a women say that she has bad thoughts during Mass because of how the men dress at Mass.

As a priest, just imagine what it is like to give Holy Communion, the Body of Christ, right above a woman showing off her chest.  It is especially obvious when they kneel down to receive Holy Communion.  It is simply charity to us men for women to dress modestly.

I think that most of us men are embarrassed to admit our sexual temptations.  Once, when I ran St. Francis Catholic Kitchen in Santa Cruz, California, a protestant minister friend told me that men are slightly sexually aroused over a hundred time a day from visual things.

Yes, we priest and men need to be very very chaste and pure.  We need to do everything possible to never sin.  That is why viewing pornography is so horrible.  It excites what is already built into us and turns it into a monster.  And, when all said and done, we are responsible for any sin of the flesh, in spite of the X rated society we live in.

The devil’s first attack on us men is through our sexual weakness!

We need to always keep this in the forefront of our minds.  We need to ask Jesus, Mary and the Angels to help us be pure.  We need to go to confession regularly, especially if someone is fighting the vices of masturbation, adultery, fornication, pornography or using prostitutes.  Confession is a medicine waiting to be administered to the sick soul.  But recovery is a torture and take a lot of time and struggle.

I know that women have different struggles and temptations.  They to have to contend with concupiscence as well,  but it is in a different way from us men.  They need to understand our weakness and help us to be holy and pure.  We need to understand their weakness and help them be holy and pure.  Many women say they are weak when it comes to sexual advances for men.

Many years ago my friends would sing this German song at parties.  The words are in English but the accent is German.  This is the English West country version that is suppose to teach you the names of the the body in English.  As you sing the song, you point to the various parts of the body.

With my hands on my head, what have I here
This is my brain boxer my teacher dear
Brain boxer, nicky , nicky, nacky, noo
That’s what they taught me when I went to school

With my hands on my head, What have I here
These are my eye blinkers my teacher dear
Eye blinkers, brain boxer, nicky , nicky, nacky, noo
That’s what they taught me when I went to school

continues in the same vein with
nose wiper (obvious!)
tea strainer (mouth)
chin wagger (um..chin!)
bread basket (tummy)
back acher (back)
TROUBLE MAKER (one guess!)
wind breaker (bottom)
knee knockers (knees)
globe trotters (feet)

Although the gift of our sexuality is from God and is from which wonderful children come, nevertheless it is over and over a TROUBLE MAKER.

We are so blessed to be traditional Catholics and to know that sex is sacred and to be carefully housed in the Holy Sanctuary of Matrimony to produce other souls for God’s kingdom.

Is Gambling At Casinos A Sin For Catholics # 2

Most people who go to gamble at casinos, bet on sports, horses or play the lottery are attracted to the idea of getting rich easily without working for it.   But the matter of fact is that most of them loose their money and a very few win money.  The odds are stacked very high against them.  Yet, that slight chance of getting rich, draws them to waste their money and time, (life).iu

We read in the Bible that, ‘The love of money is the root of all evil’.  1 Timothy 6:10.  Most people seek money above all things because they are under the false impression that once they have money they will be eternally happy.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Yes we need money to live on and the deprivation of money can cause great suffering.  But money, in and of itself, is not what makes us happy or sad.  It may make us happy for a short time, but then we are back to our very selves again, happy or sad.  It is God, family, friends, animals, nature a clean conscience that makes us happy.

At the casinos there is either free alcohol, (for the big players), or inexpensive alcohol for the rest.  The purpose of this is to get people somewhat drunk so that they are careless and can loose a lot of money without really being aware of it.  There is inexpensive buffets too that attract people too.iu

They also deceitfully change your real money, that you are attached to and know its value only too well, to chips with $ signs on them.  When you loose cash, you feel it.  When you loose these chips, your are not so aware of it because it is a step away from the real thing, cash.   The casinos are not our friends.  They are there to take away our money.

I now try to never use the word addiction or addict because it is used in the world today to  say that someone has an illness of getting drunk, using drugs or gambling.  The person has very little moral responsibility over their actions because they have no control over their addictions.  The free will has been removed and there for it is not sinful.

But the word I use is vice.  Vice is a repeated bad habit or sin that then becomes habitual. Yes, we need God’s grace to brake bad vices by confession and sacrifice, but we are still responsible for our vices.  We still go to hell for vices that we did not fight or confess.  So, that being said, gambling can easily become a vice where it becomes compulsive and where we can waste our life, (time), and money.

I have known people who have lost their families money, stolen money to gamble and have gone bankrupt gambling.  One lady came to see me because she had bailed out her husband over their married life something like $200,000 or more.  She knew it was wrong, but he will always tell her that the mafia was about to kill him, (which was true).  So she would bail him out again and again.  That money was for their children’s education and other plans that never got realized.  I also knew a man who would steal dollars from his little children to gamble.iu

Here are some signs to see if you have the gambling vice.

  • Excessive time spent on gambling websites or at casinos or other gambling venues
  • Unusual increases or decreases in available spending money
  • Feeling jittery and agitated when not gambling
  • Purchasing excessive numbers of lottery tickets or scratch off tickets
  • Feeling anger and anxiety when unable to gain access to sources of gambling
  • Missing work and family events in order to spend time gambling

So all this being said, I say that the motive to gamble, bet and play the lottery is sinful in itself; avarice and greed for money so as to be happy.  Jesus said in the beatitudes that happiness is in being poor of heart; ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit’.  He also said terrible warnings to the rich; ‘Woe to you rich’, ‘It is harder for a rich man to get into heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle’.

We must then use our extra money for the Church, the poor or to help others.  We need to be happy right now with what God has given.  Besides, extremely few people get rich from gambling, betting or the lottery.  Lets be wise and holy.  Thank God we have what we have and let us be generous with others if we have extra.

We are so blessed to be traditional Catholics and to know that God is our happiness and heaven our home.

Saving Our Catholic Children From becoming Sex Objects

I have a slow leak in one of the tires on my van.  It almost went flat on me yesterday.  Instead of going to a tire shop on Sunday, to get it fixed, (and causing someone to have to work on the Lord’s Day), I went to a coin machine and filled it up with air.  IMG_3220

Today, Monday, I went to my friends tire shop to get it fixed.  I ran into a woman, who’s daughter was very ill in the hospital a year and a half ago.  She was very very seriously ill.  I would go visit her often, because the mother was desperate, and she recovered thanks to much prayer.  She is now a healthy 4 year old.

As the mother waited for her tire to be repaired, her daughter was in the car.  I opened the door to say hi to her.  She was listening to music on her mom’s smart phone.  Believe it or not, (I had a hard time believing my eyes and my ears), she was watching a music video with women dressed very sexy and doing obscene gestures.

I took the phone from her, (kindly), and showed her mother what she was watching.  I asked the mother, (who is in a woman’s group here at the parish), how her daughter learned how to listen to such immoral music.  She said her other daughters, age 8, 10 and 12, have taught their sister how to watch these music videos.  Her sisters are in our catechism classes.

priest-children-bagshot-surreyCatholic children, back when they use to dress like Catholic Christians.

So, as much as I feel like doing, I am not going to get discouraged that 4 year old girl in my parish is already addicted to immoral music videos.  No, we just need to acknowledge how evil things are right now with our Catholic fathers, mothers and children, and go on trying to effect the few with whom we may have a tiny bit of good influence on.  We are the tiny speck fighting against three huge monsters, the the devil, the flesh and the world.

We are so blessed to be traditional Catholics.  Hopefully, our children will be less likely to have access to these evil monsters that will gobble up their souls.  Then it will be ‘less likely’ that they will have premarital sex, get pregnant as nature works and then have these babies killed because they were not ‘planned’.

These sexy music videos prepare our children to dress sexy, to act sexy and to have sex.   It is a loose loose situation.   The children loose their innocence, loose their virginity, loose their self respect, are treated as sex objects, and will probably never have a happy normal godly marriage that last ’till death do us part’.
