God gives us LIFE, FAMILY, FRIENDS, THE UNIVERSE, FOOD, ANIMALS, PLANTS AND AIR. We are so blessed to receive such an abundance of things from God every instant of our lives.
He asks us to give back a small token of our love and gratitude by keeping the Lord’s day holy by going to Holy Mass and resting.
“ Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day. Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works. But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work on it, thou nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy beast, nor the stranger that is within thy gates.
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it.” Exodus 20: 8-10.
When at La Salette France, Our Lady appeared in 1846 to Maximino and Melanie, the two main messages were that God was offended by people not honoring Sunday by failing to go to Holy Mass and resting and blaspheming God’s name.
God gives us 7 days of life every week. He then asks us to give just give back one of those days to Him. When we do, we are rewarded by receiving His Holy Word and Holy Eucharist. We also get to rest and be prepared for the new week.
It is like this. I want to be generous with my money, so I give you 7 million dollars. But I do so on one condition, that you give 1 of the 7 million back to me. You would not have any of the money if it were not for my generosity. Is it really asking too much to ask you to return 1 million of what I have given you? You will still have 6 million of the money I generously gave to you.
Keeping Sunday Holy, allows us to break the routine of one day after another, all pretty much to same. Before, almost everywhere, stores were closed. After church, people stayed home and enjoyed food, family and rest.
Have you noticed that Sunday is the first day of the week on calendars, even though we say the “weekend”? Now pagans are changing the calendars and putting Sunday as the last day.
God is extremely generous. But He asks us to give Him the first 10 percent of what comes from Him. So we give Him the first part of the day of Sunday to go to Holy Mass. If we put Him off to when we feel like going, usually something else comes up and pushes God out of the way. Out of gratitude we want to give Him the first hour of the first day of the week because the whole week is a gift from Him.
If you have a dairy and have to milk cows, you do the very minimum possible. It says that yourself, nor you workers, and not even you animals are to work, on the Lord’s Day. If you are a doctor or nurse and have to take care of patients then that is another case. But so many people work on Sunday because everything has to be instantly purchased. I will not shop, buy gas or go to restaurants on Sunday so that I am not responsible for people having to work so I can get what I want.
People put making money over obeying God. In that way, they are making money their god. God provides what money purchases. If we obey His laws and keep Holy Sunday, He will pour out His blessings, including money, on us.
Many martyrs died for not putting a tiny grain of incense on the false gods altars. No one is going to kill us for not working on Sunday. May we learn to put things in order. God first. Family second. Work third.
