The Holy Rosary, with the 3 traditional mysteries, was preached all over Europe in the early 1700s by St. Louis Marie De Montfort. His book; “The Secret of the Rosary” is a must read. It really helps you see why praying the Holy Rosary everyday is so valuable. Throughout Catholic History, the Holy Rosary has been used to convert sinners, win wars, restore peace and heal the sick.
When the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary and announced that she would be God’s instrument, so that the Word could become Flesh, he said to her the first part of the Ave Maria. “Ave Maria, gracia plena, Dominus tecum“, “Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you“, (Luke 1: 28)
St. Elizabeth was also divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit to greet Mary with: “Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventures tui” (Jesus), “blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb” (Jesus). Luke 1: 42.
The Catechism of Trent states that Holy Catholic Church added: “Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus nunc et in hora mortis nostrae“, (Amen), “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death“, (Amen). This part of the prayer asks Mary to intercede to God for us sinners so that we can be reconciled with Him. It also asks that we will be blessed in this present life and forever in the life after our death.
This simple prayer; the “Ave Maria”, “Hail Mary” is so powerful because it is repeating the “Angelic Salutation” that brought God down to Earth in Jesus Christ. From this instant on, God began His reconciliation with man. The repairing began. Heaven would soon be re-opened by Mary’s Son dying on the Cross for us sinners.
Praying the Holy Rosary is so so simple and yet so so powerful when we need help from God. It is also such a powerful instrument against the evil devil. It brings God’s help into our human history. We are so blessed to be traditional Catholics and tell others about the great benefits of praying the Holy Rosary.
