The most precious gift and the most powerful help there is in all the world is Jesus Christ. He just waiting for us to turn to Him and ask for His help. Yet we so often just ignore Him, or forget Him or live as if He does not exist. Often Jesus is rejected because people know that they can not have their sinful pleasures if they get close to Him and His Catholic Church.
In the letter of St. Paul to the Philippians, he states: “But the things that were gain for me, the same I have now counted as loss for Christ. I count all things to be but loss for the excellent knowledge of Jesus Christ my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but as dung, that I may gain Christ;” Philippians 3: 7-8.
Let us be honest and admit we still love money, things, health, pleasures and people more than Jesus. We need to reflect on this truth that St. Paul states; all of this that we love so dearly and rely on so strongly, is but poop, dung, when compared with the love, power and help of Jesus Christ. At our death, whether we like it or not, it will all be taken away. Even at this very minute, I could loose every created thing, everyone I love and my life as well. But when I put my love and faith in Jesus Christ, who can never be taken away, He can restore, so easily all that I may lose, as long as it will be for my eternal benefit. Jesus is Powerful and generous.
So, it is alright to appreciate all the people, things and health that we have. But, we learn from the saints, like St. Paul who gave up everything, that the source of all things is Who matters, not the things (like the chicken who lays the golden egg, not the golden eggs). What security it is for us to know that in suffering, sickness, poverty, persecution, calumny and death, Jesus will always be with us to help us. In the end He will lead us to peace and happiness here and here after. “Jesus I Trust In Your Love.”
