St. Francis Xavier converted hundreds of thousands to the Holy Catholic Faith. We really need to discover how God worked through him and try to imitate his missionary methods.
Eternal God, Creator of all things, remember that You alone have created the souls of unbelievers, which You have made according to Your Image and Likeness. Behold, O Lord, how to Your dishonor, many of them are falling into Hell. Remember, O Lord, Your Son Jesus Christ, Who so generously shed His Blood and suffered for them. Do not permit that Your Son, Our Lord, remain unknown by unbelievers, but, with the help of Your Saints and the Church, the Bride of Your Son, You will remember Your mercy and forgive their idolatry and infidelity, and make them know to Him, Whom You have sent, Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord, Who is our salvation, our life, and our resurrection, through Whom we have been saved and redeemed, and to Whom is due glory forever. Amen.
I get very tired of hearing about “New Evangelization”. What would St. Francis Xavier think of this “New” method. Pope John Paul kept promoting this “New Evangelization”. Then Pope Benedict. And now Pope Francis.
I ask where are the fruits? All I experience where I travel in the USA, Mexico and Europe, is Catholics leaving the Church. I see very few coming into the Church.
St. Francis Xavier did great mortification and contemplative prayer. He went directly to the head people in the societies, like the kings and royalty. But at the same time he live poorly and loved and cared for the poor. He preached the Catholic faith as the only true faith given to us by Jesus Christ. He was not an ecumenist who believed any religion was as good as another as long as they are people of good will. He loved them too much to leave them in their religious errors and worshipping of false gods.
God showed His approval by all the miracles He performed through him like raising the dead, healing and the gift of prophecy.
When I talked to children in the Legion of Mary about St. Francis Xavier converting hundred of thousands of people to the Catholic faith, I asked them if they had converted anyone. Several of them had converted their brother or sister.
One had converted her mother to wear dresses, put on a veil and to start going to Holy Mass every week. She also told about being at a youth retreat where there were over a thousand youth. She was not sure to wear the veil at the mass, being the only youth who had one on. She overcame her embarrassment and put it on. Later a woman came up to her and congratulated her on it and she was able to share with the woman’s daughter.
