I met a man from Peru today who has read the Bible through 4 times and is almost finished with the 5th time. We got on the subject when I told him I liked that his Cardinal Cipriani who has enforce kneeling for the receiving of Jesus in Holy Communion and not in the hand. This is when he told me that Cardinal Cipriani also has encouraged all the Catholics of his diocese to read the Bible.
Many of us traditional Catholics spend a great time reading blogs, studying the liturgy documents and Church history. But feel we I do not spend enough time reading the Bible. When I post on the Bible, I think people do not find it very interesting because there is no controversy, but just the Word of God.
If we are going to help save our Catholic faith, we need to be very well grounded in where our Catholic faith came from and where our tradition comes from. I am not saying we need to memorize versus so as to be able to defend the Catholic faith. I am saying being very versed in the Word of God so as to be able to defend our faith.
Some simple examples are like when Jesus in John 6:54. “Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood; you shall not have life in you.” As you may recall from the Letter to All the Faithful by St. Francis, he quotes this passage to say you have to be Catholic and eat the Body and drink the Blood of Jesus in order to have salvation.
Another example is John 3:5. “Amen, amen I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” Here Jesus makes it clear that we have to be baptized and have confirmation to be saved.
Matthew 16:18 “And I say to thee: that thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Keep on studying your Catholic faith, but also get over the boredom of learning more about the Bible. I again encourage everyone reading this blog to try to gather together and study the Bible. I know that you are afraid of misinterpreting the Bible studying on your own. The best case scenario is to get a traditional priest to lead it. Next is to get someone who has studied under a good priest to teach it. You can always google hard passages to find the traditional understanding of it. Type in “traditional catholic understanding of the bread of life discourse in the Bible”.
Please be careful of wasting too much time on the news about the pope or traditional controversies. The internet can consume precious time from important prayer and reading the Bible. And we cannot forget to do our daily duties of our different vocations. Many time we can escape our duties getting all involved in Church issues. Offer up you daily duties as a prayer and God will answer your prayers for the restoration of His Church.
The original author of this blog passed away in July of 2016. RIP Father Carota.
